Our packages
Hartpury University, our partners and other organisations offer a range of financial support packages to eligible students applying for our courses.
In 2023/24 Hartpury University provided financial assistance to almost one quarter of university students through bursaries, scholarship and additional support.
You can apply for more than one bursary, but only one bursary will be awarded (usually the highest value for which you're eligible).
Financial Support
The following financial support provision applies to the academic year starting 2025 only and may be subject to change in future years.

Financial Support Grant*
Aims to support ongoing study by offering financial support towards living costs for those students experiencing financial hardship. Available to students studying any higher education course. The grant is not repayable and offers up to £2,000 support.

Veterinary Nursing Financial Assistance Grant
Aims to support ongoing study by offering financial support towards living costs of up to £3,000. Available to students studying either the BSc (Hons) Equine Veterinary Nursing or the BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing course. To be eligible for this grant, you must be undertaking unpaid veterinary practice-based learning for 1,800 hours in less than 52 weeks and demonstrate financial hardship.

Sports Therapy Professional Practice Grant
Aims to support final year Sports Therapy undergraduate students with the additional travel costs associated with the compulsory 100 hours off-campus training.
Final year students may be eligible providing they:
- Have fully passed and progressed to Level 6
- Have completed Year 1 and 2 on campus placement hours.
- Attend the minimum of 40 hours student led clinic in Year 3.
- Hold a placement at an approved placement provider.
- Can demonstrate financial hardship

Study Experience Grant*
Aims to support access study trips linked to a module/programme. This grant is awarded on a sliding scale up to £1,000 dependent on household income.
*Financial Assistance grants and loans do not open until 1 November after enrolment. Enquire via studentfinance@hartpury.ac.uk.
Financial Support Loan*
The loan of up to £1,000 is repayable by the students as it aims to fill a void where there is a delay in the SLC fund release. You must evidence hardship and that you applied for/are in receipt of an SLC loan (ongoing/future learning). Available to students studying any higher education course.

Funds for diagnostic assessment
Students may not obtain the study support they require due to financial barriers that prevents them from getting an assessment to support a Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) application. This fund helps to cover the the cost of the assessment.

Contribution towards purchase of laptop fund
The Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) process still requires students to pay towards the cost of a laptop which can be prohibitive for students from low household incomes. This fund can provide financial assistance to remove this barrier to study support.
Only available to students who are in receipt of DSA funding and based on household income.

Hartpury Low Income Bursary
Up to £1,000, available to students from households with an income of less than £42,000 per year of study to support living costs. This bursary amount is in addition to any grants/loans secured via the Student Loans Company.

Martin Baber Award
The Martin Baber Award is an international work experience bursary, available to support currently enrolled Hartpury students who wish to study or work abroad within the Agricultural sector.
The purpose of the bursary is to enhance students’ knowledge and understanding, practical application and transferable skills in a global agricultural context.
The bursary supports students with travel and visa costs plus funds to cover an initial period once they have arrived at their destination. It can be used to help with:
- Accommodation
- Travel
- Subsistence
- Books and equipment
- Other related expenditure
The maximum amount of an award available to a student is £1,500.

Hartpury University Travel Bursary
We are pleased to offer a limited number of travel bursaries for prospective students looking to commence study at Hartpury University in September 2025. The bursary covers the cost of reasonable expenses, up to £50, associated with visiting Hartpury University to attend an undergraduate open day or applicant day. The funds are available on a first come first served basis and once the fund has been exhausted no further applications will be considered.

Three Counties Agricultural Society Bursary in Memory of Joe Henson MBE
Open to students who reside in the three counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, studying agriculture or related subjects. The Joe Henson Bursary supports up to a maximum of three years of study, with £1,000 per annum provided each year to two students.

- Further Education students progressing directly from a Hartpury College further education course on to degree study at Hartpury University.
- Eligible students will have achieved:

A £500 scholarship aimed to support student access trips/visits and rewarding academic achievement. Application for this scholarship is to be made in writing outlining the value of their study opportunity to their programme and future career. Our Postgraduate Studentship Scheme provides a fantastic development opportunity, enabling you to complement your postgraduate study with important real-world research within a paid position at Hartpury. We have a limited number of positions at one time, making this a much sought after opportunity.
Hartpury University alumni discount
Hartpury University graduates may be eligible to receive up to 10% discount for studying a master's course, and up to 10% from professional course fees (2025/26). This applies to the first year of study only. This does not include postgraduate research (PhD) degrees where the support offered differs and contributions are provided against project costs.

Postgraduate assistant roles
As a Hartpury postgraduate research or teaching assistant, you’ll join our university teaching team to support academic staff for 15 hours each week across all aspects of practice including facilitating group and one-to-one student sessions, teaching and assessment, as well as academic administration duties.
Our teaching and research assistant roles are a fantastic opportunity for postgraduate students to gain valuable academic and industry qualifications and experience on campus alongside their studies whilst earning a salary to help support their studies.
PhD Project Bursary
This can be applied for once studies have commenced. PhD students can apply for up to £3,000 per relative academic year for research project support, depending on mode of study. Please speak to your Director of Studies for further information.

UK-based education marketing agency, Postgrad Solutions, offers bursaries for students from across the globe who are undertaking postgraduate study in the UK.

The NFU Mutual Charitable Trust Centenary Award
This annual award provides bursaries to pay up to 75% of course fees for selected students who are undertaking a postgraduate course in agriculture (Masters or PhD) within the UK.

Tuition fees and student loans
Tuition fees are one of the main costs of studying at university. At Hartpury, your tuition fees cover a variety of costs including the teaching of lectures, tutorials and lab sessions.
Additional support options
Our financial support packages don't affect eligibility for government support, such as maintenance grants and loans for tuition fees and living costs. Bursary amounts are also reflective of the packages available via the Student Loans Company.
Financial package terms explained
- Bursary or grant: a monetary award that does not need to be repaid
- Scholarship: an award or financial aid, awarded based on pre-specified criteria. Scholarships do not need to be repaid
- Loan: a monetary loan designed to help students pay for higher education and associated fees. A loan does need to be repaid
Bursaries have a limited amount of funds available. Once utilised the funds will be closed for the academic year.
