Success Stories

BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy

Hannah Jones

Hannah studies BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy, she's a practical person and loves being able to get hands on with her course. She chose to come to Hartpury University because of the opportunities to combine training to a high standard in rugby with studying a course that she wanted to do.

"Hartpury had everything I needed to be the best, both on and off the pitch. You aren't just a number here, you're personally known by the lecturers. Women’s sport is very popular at Hartpury and it was great to see so many girls signing up. I chose to do this course because I’ve always had an interest in issues like injury and how athletes are treated and rehabilitated. The structured strength and conditioning sessions, my personal programme, and my access to top-level coaching helped me to improve significantly, both physically and mentally.

I was lucky enough to make my senior international debut for Wales at the 2015 Women’s Six Nations, which although was challenging as I was much younger than other players, it was an unreal experience. I got to play again in 2016, showing great improvement since the last year. Playing for Hartpury University's team and the Gloucester-Hartpury squad was also very enjoyable and although it's been quite full-on, I’ve managed well with my studies.

Our lecture content incorporates a lot of rugby themes. I've learnt about injury in relation to my sport and have an understanding of little niggles that others may have. I’ve watched the physiotherapist for the national team work with players and it’s been good to observe what’s going on so that I can apply it to my own studies.

I’d love to play professional rugby and hopefully for the Welsh women’s team. The World Cup is coming up in 2017 and that would be a dream to be involved in. My degree gives me a really good option of staying involved in professional sport, whether that’s competing or working in it, or both!"
