All students must demonstrate a suitable level of English language proficiency before starting their studies at Hartpury. This helps ensure you can succeed academically and make the most of your time in the UK.
If you need a Student visa, you may also be required to provide evidence of your English language ability as part of your visa application.
The information below outlines the English language tests we accept and our minimum requirements for each level of study.
You may not need to provide an English language test if you:
- are a national of a majority English-speaking country (as defined by UKVI)
- have completed GCSE English Language or Scottish National Qualification Level 4 or 5 in English Language
- have completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, achieving English at Standard Level (SL) grade 3 or above
- have completed a bachelor's degree taught in English at a recognised university in the UK or another majority English-speaking country

Pre-sessional English courses
Want to strengthen your English skills before starting at Hartpury?
We've partnered with the Oxford International Digital Institute to offer online pre-sessional English courses that help you prepare for university study in the UK. Whether you need to meet our English language requirements or simply want to build your confidence in academic English, these courses can help you get ready for success.
Courses are available over 6, 12 or 16 weeks, depending on your current English language level. By completing a pre-sessional course, you'll improve your academic English skills and feel more confident participating in classes and everyday life in the UK.
