Sports Business Management

BSc (Hons) Top-up Level 6

Level 6 Entry onto the BSc (Honours) Sports Business Management (Top-up Level 6) degree is specifically designed to create a pathway that allows graduates from the 3-year Sports Management diploma, taught at certain Ontario colleges, to complete a Bachelor’s degree in just one further academic year.

In order to be able to offer this, we have scrutinised the Ontario Sports Management diploma program and are satisfied that it meets the prior learning requirements in order to allow this pathway.

Course information

Top-up your existing qualifications to a full BSc degree in one year. Top-up courses are equivalent to the final year of an undergraduate degree and allow you to 'top-up' an existing qualification into a full honours degree.

Students joining Hartpury via this route will undertake an undergraduate dissertation (research project), as well as choosing from further modules which include Strategic Management, Sponsorship and Brand Development, The Impact of Sports Events, People, Leadership and Change, Sport and Social Media and Project Management.

Study the impact of social media in relation to fan-generated content, as a complex communication tool for sports organisations.

Sport Sponsorship and Brand Development

Create a new sponsorship relationship that achieves brand-awareness or brand exposure for a business of your choice.

You’ll be assessed through a mixture of written exams, practical exams, written assignments and presentations. Many of the modules will be marked based on a mixture of assessment types, whilst others will be based solely on one type of assessment. Feedback will be given using a mixture of verbal and written comments; these will be offered to help you achieve your goals as a student on this programme.  In support of this, your personal tutor will be available to help you build upon feedback and develop skills that are necessary for a sports graduate.

This programme is taught over two semesters, normally consisting of 12 weeks of scheduled teaching and then assessment weeks, with an overview below:

  • Scheduled teaching takes place between 8:30 to 20:30 Monday to Friday
  • Wednesday afternoons are normally reserved for sports and cultural activities
  • Work placements may entail different days and hours
  • Part-time students may need to attend learning activities five days each week, depending on modules selected
  • Timetables are available during enrolment week

Clothing and footwear

Clothing and footwear will be dependent upon your option module choices; consequently, you’ll be advised of these requirements when you start your course.

Additional costs

In the final year of the degree, students are expected to source an external placement that meets the accredited criteria. This may have additional travel costs.

Hartpury University may host various extra-curricular activities and courses, prices may vary dependent on the nature and duration of the course and external provider, but these are not compulsory.

Work placements can require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, paid for by the student or placement provider.

The programme offers an optional study abroad programme that will incur additional costs for the student.
