Match Preview- Swindon Supermarine (H)

The tough tests keep coming for the Acorns, as we welcome joint league leaders Swindon Supermarine to the KMM Energy Stadium, on Saturday.

The Acorns will be hoping to make it four Southern League Div One South games unbeaten, as we look to kick on from Tuesday night’s 2-0 win at Westbury United.

Ahead of Supermarine’s trip to Gloucestershire, here is everything you need to know about our visitors.

THE OPPOSITION – SWINDON SUPERMARINE

STADIUM – Imagine Cruising Stadium

FOUNDED – 1992

NICKNAME – The Spitfires

MANAGER – Bobby Wilkinson

LEAGUE POSITION – 2nd

FORM GUIDE - W-W-W-D-W

SMOOTH TAKE OFF

The Spitfires have suffered minimal turbulence at the start of this season, suffering just three defeats in 19 games.

It’s also just one defeat in their last six games since their top of the table defeat to Dorchester Town at the beginning of the month.

The Spitfires come into this game off the back of a dramatic 94th minute 1-0 win over Worcester Raiders, which saw them temporarily return to the top before Weymouth’s win on Wednesday night.

That win also secured the Spitfires third clean sheet in their last five games, having only conceded twice in that period.

Travelling hasn’t been an issue for Bobby Wilkinson’s side who have lost just once on the road all season, during nine trips in all competitions.

LEAGUE DOUBLE

The Acorns secured a league double over the Spitfires last season, winning both games 2-1.

The away game at the Imagine Cruising Stadium would be the game most memorable to spectators, as the Acorns secured that victory with just nine-men on the field.

IN THE DUGOUT – BOBBY WILKINSON

Spitfires’ fans would have been delighted to see their manager, Bobby Wilkinson, sign a new deal with the club this month seeing him stay at the Imagine Cruising Stadium until the end of the 2028/29 season.

Wilkinson took the reigns in 2025, following the club’s relegation from the Southern League Premier South.

It was a struggling first season which saw the Spitfires finish around the midtable mark, but this season has been worlds apart with Wilkinson making his side early contenders for the title.

PLAYER TO WATCH – CONOR LYNCH

Conor Lynch sits as the sides joint top scorer, so far this season, with four goals to his name.

Lynch was the man responsible for scoring that 94th minute winner on Monday night against Worcester Raiders.

The four goals for Lynch have all come in his last games for the Spitfires, in all competitions.
